Goonswarm Third-Party Applications Setup

GSF Mumble Setup
This is where we talk. Socialize with your corp and alliance mates. This is also where you go to listen to fleet commands. You can’t be in fleets if you’re not in comms.

1. Download and install Mumble.
a. https://www.mumble.com/mumble-download.php
b. Install guides: https://www.mumble.com/mumble-server-support.php
2. Retrieve your GSF Mumble username.
a. https://esi.goonfleet.com
b. Login with your character name (not email address) and your forums password.
c. Click “ESA” from top menu.
d. From the “GSF Mumble” box, select and copy your username.
3. Connect to GSF Mumble server.
a. Open Mumble
b. Click “Server”, then click “Connect”.
c. Click “Add New” and fill in the following information:
i. Label: Goonswarm Federation
ii. Address: mumble.goonfleet.com
iii. Port: 64738
iv. Username: <enter/paste your username from step “2.d”>
v. Password: <enter/paste your GSF ESA password>
d. Click “OK”, then click “Connect”.
4. Configure audio devices and push-to-talk key.
a. In Mumble: click “Configure”, then click “Audio Wizard”.
b. Go through the Audio Wizard process and make sure everything works.
i. Alternatively, if you know what you’re doing, click “Configure”, then click “Settings”, and manually adjust your settings.
ii. NOTE: Do not use a common key for your push-to-talk button. If you use something like, Ctrl, Shift, Alt, Space, etc., as your push-to-talk key, you will constantly be keying up in comms and annoying the fuck out of everyone. Use tilde ( ` ), or a mouse button, or whatever. Be smart.
5. Configure additional setting to keep you from going crazy.
a. With over 1000 users at any given time, GSF Mumble can get pretty crazy. And good ‘ole Mumble makes it even worse for you by choosing to have ridiculous default settings. So here’s how you fix this:
i. In Mumble: click “Configure”, then click “Settings”.
ii. Check the “Advanced” box in the lower-left corner of the settings window.
iii. Go to “User Interface” menu.
iv. In the “Channel Tree” section, set the “Expand” option to “None”.
v. Check “Show channel user count”.
vi. Click “OK”.
6. Recommended: Disable all Mumble sounds (because they’re super annoying).
a. In Mumble: click “Configure”, then click “Settings”.
b. Check the “Advanced” box in the lower-left corner of the settings window.
c. Go to “Messages” menu.
d. Uncheck every single box. All of them. Seriously, they’re so damn annoying.
e. Click “OK”.
7. Join us in our corp channel.
a. With Mumble open, and connected to GSF server, click here to join the Bovril channel.
b. Talk freely, but don’t be annoying.
GSF Jabber Setup
This is really just a chat program (like ICQ or AOL Instant Messenger, if you’re old as fuck like some of us). You can join chat channels and talk with alliance members and groups. Most importantly though, this is the only way to get fleet pings. If you don’t get fleet pings, you don’t know when fleets are going out. If you don’t go on fleets, you can’t get your required PAPs.
There are several Jabber (XMPP) clients out there, but most of us use Pidgin. For simplicity’s sake, we will only cover setup instructions for Pidgin.

1. Download and install Pidgin.
a. https://www.pidgin.im/download/
b. Install guides: https://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/Installing%20Pidgin
2. Retrieve your GSF Jabber username.
a. https://esi.goonfleet.com
b. Login with your character name (not email address) and your forums password.
c. Click “ESA” from top menu.
d. From the “GSF Jabber” box, select and copy your username.
3. Connect to GSF Jabber server.
a. Accounts
b. Manage Accounts
c. Add
d. Click “Add” and fill in the following information:
i. Protocol: XMPP
ii. Username: <enter/paste your username from step “2.d”>
iii. Domain: goonfleet.com
iv. Resource: <leave blank>
v. Password: <enter/paste your GSF ESA password>
vi. Check Remember Password
vii. Local Alias: <enter your proper character name>
e. Click “Save”.
You can find additional information on Jabber and Pidgin on the GSF Wiki (login to the GSF Forums to access the Wiki).
